SUMMIT (Sustainable Urban Mobility Management Information Technologies)
The project
SUMMIT expected to define and test new solutions for an integrated approach to sustainable urban mobility aiming at reducing the environmental impact and social costs of the city traffic, and increasing the user’s choice opportunities, providing up-to-date information within cities such as Patras, Bari, Brindisi and Corfu.
Objectives
- ensure the satisfaction of needs for mobility of people and goods transport with compliance with the goals of reducing energy consumption, environmental costs and risk to public health
- improve mobility in cities with particular regard to modes of "sustainable" transports such as public transport, cycle-pedestrian and combined (intermodal) transport
- influence individual behavior by encouraging the user to meet the mobility needs of transport using environmentally and socially sustainable transports modes
- reduce the number, length and needs of individual moves by private vehicle
- encourage individuals, companies or institutions to meet their travel needs through the efficient and integrated transport systems and resources available in cities and metropolitan areas
- Improve integration between transport modes and facilitate the interconnection of existing transport networks, including through the development of specific information systems and communications
Long term Objectives
- Putting research and technology at the heart of socially inclusive transport planning and provisio
- Increase recognition of the rights and obligations of users and transport agencies and providers as they apply to information and communication
- Usage of interactive learning methods for the development of novel, accessible information formats, models, systems and products to promote public transport and support urban traffic management
- Overall improvements in journey safety and quality of life for travellers through use of public transport in preference to other alternatives
